Monthly First Saturday Group Ride
Starting May 1st 2010 Mendocino Coast Cyclists will host a group mountain bike ride to be held the first Saturday of the month through September 4th 2010.Everyone is welcome!
Ride leader Roo Harris will be meeting at the end of the pavement on Road 409 (about 3.5 miles east of Hwy 1) at 10 a.m.
Bring water, food, and proper clothing for a 2-4 hr ride.
The route will depend on the ability of the riders that show up. An easier short ride followed by a longer hard ride will also be a possibility.
We love riding and helping others enjoy the Mendocino Coast on a bike!
A note from Roo,
Any cyclists who are thinking of coming should make reservations with Roo Harris prior to the first Saturday of each month trail ride. Please call (707) 937-4238 to make reservations. Without reservations the ride will not be scheduled for those dates. We at Mendocino Coast Cyclists look forward to showing you our back yard.
Enjoy,
Chris

Strategic Plan for the California Coastal Trail in Mendocino County and Cyclists
Bicycle riders are being excluded from most of the proposed trails in the Strategic Plan for the California Coastal Trail in Mendocino County. Access to trails along the coast is very much desired by local and visiting cyclists. Riding a bicycle is an enjoyable and healthy way to see the coast and brings many visitors to our area. Mountain bikes do not need a "class one bike path" to ride on. Cyclists can walk stairs, tight corners, and other obstacles so in reality no trail is unusable to them. The idea bicycles are more damaging to "sensitive natural resources" then hikers has not been backed up by scientific studies. "Access to trailheads and parking" is less important to cyclists then it is to hikers since riding to the trail is a possibility. Allowing bicycles on new trails should be open to review. "Land management agency policies" have been changed to allow cyclists in the past and should not be used to automatically exclude them. Bicycle riders have contributed their time and money to acquire right of ways and build trails on the coast but have not been included in forming policies for trails. Mendocino Coast Cyclists would like to help insure bicycling is included on the California Coastal Trail in Mendocino County.
Sincerely,
Chris Clutton

Mendocino Coast Regional Park
Presented by
Chris Clutton of the Mendocino Coast Cyclists
The following improvements are suggested for cyclists at the Regional Park east of Summers Ln.
Bike path from the Hwy 20 bike lane to activity areas and park trails.
Sweet Trail
Jump Area
Bike racks near activity areas.
Loop trails open to bikes through the park.
Trail open to bikes from park trails to the A&W Haul Rd and Jackson State Forest.
Bike skill areas located near a parking area and park trails.
Pump Track
Bicycling facilities are a good choice for the Regional Park
Having the opportunity to help build, maintain, and use a bike trails and skill areas can motivate young people to become active cyclists. Not all youths like participating in team sports. Cycling can be enjoyed alone or in a group. Cycling is an activity that people can participate in throughout their life. Young people should have a safe place to improve cycling skills in a well-designed area with experienced guidance.
Mendocino Coast Cyclists
The Mendocino Coast Cyclists Club (MCC) is interested in partnering with Mendocino Coast Parks and Recreation Department to help plan, layout, build, and maintain bike trails and skill areas at the Regional Park east of Summers Ln.
MCC is a club formed in 2003 with the mission to Advocate cycling in all aspects. Promote responsible and safe trail and road use.
MCC currently has over 70 members and more than 100 receive e-mails.
MCC has held trash clean up, trail building, and maintenance workdays on Jackson State Forest and more are planned for 2010.
Ongoing group rides are held three times weekly (weather permitting).
MCC also holds a yearly mountain bike race and has helped with cycling events held by Fort Bragg Cyclery, Catch a Canoe, and Bike Mendo.
