Working on the final grade.

Jim and Cindy join us at lunch after putting down first tracks.

This was another successful work day thanks to all the help from the Club and Jackson State Forest!

Enjoy!

Adopt a Trail

This is a message posted on the Club e-mail list in June 2009 by MCC President Jiro Tulley,
Some one mentioned
that trail stewards
could be the
solution
for some trails that
are returning to the
forest.

Adopt a trail is a nice
way to show you care.

Some of us have
favorite trails that we
work on a lot and then
the
others don't see
much work.

Then those trails get
lots of use and the
others turn to brush.

If you would like to adopt a trail please let
us know and then we know
that its taken care of.

Members that have responded;

This is a good idea. I have been trying to keep up the Camp One Loop, and the
Manley Gulch Trails.
Chris

I think the adopt a trail is a great idea. If it isn't already taken I would
like to adopt Boiler Trail.
Gene

We would like to adopt the High Chute trail and the Labrador Trail.
Jim and Cindy

Many more trails trails need work. Please consider adopting a trail!

Trash Clean Up in Caspar Orchard Area

This clean up day MCC collected the least amount of trash in the five years we have been working in this area. Maybe we are making an impression on dumpers. The party spots were the hardest to pick up this year. We got allot of nails (from burned pallets) and broken glass but many nails remain. JDSF may be getting a rolling magnet this would help to get almost all of the nails. Schools are going on summer break so we may see increased use of party spots. Use care when riding through these spots, S.H. Trail at T.V. Trail, and Rd 500 at Rd 511 (Wuss Hill).

PAL Sale Bike Check

Saturday morning the truck loads of bikes kept coming from the FBPD storage yard (they now have a shed so stored bikes will not stay out in the weather as in the past) and more than 30 bikes where dropped off behind Fort Bragg Cyclery.
We checked the bikes brakes, aired up tires, lubed or replaced chains, cables, shifters and derailleurs. Some bearing adjustments, wheel truing, seat, and grip replacements were also needed.
A few bikes presented quite a challenge others only needed lube.
At the end of the day we had over 20 bikes ready for the PAL sale!

Trash Clean-up Day

Saturday August 11th 10am meeting at the Caspar Scales (Rd 500 at Rd 600) Mendocino Coast Cyclists will again hold a trash clean-up day on Jackson State Forest. Garbage is less then in years past but clean-up is still needed. The plan is to break into small groups and head out to known problem areas. We should regroup around 2pm and load trucks headed to Caspar Garbage Transfer Station. For more information call Rick Riley at 964-5250

Caspar Trail workday 12/3/06

A small group showed up for the trail workday but we got a lot done! The trail is now ridable to the second switchback corner. After this corner is built trail building will be easier until some steep side slope areas just before it connects with the existing trail. I talked to JDSF recreation forester Tess Albin-Smith about building jumps, and drops, she said they would be o.k! This would be a good trail to have some stunts along side. The next trail workday will be in January but anyone willing to do work may at any time just stay up hill of flags.

Caspar Trail workday

A Trail workday is planed for Sunday December 3rd starting at 9am. This trail is progressing nicely! With a good day of work it will be getting very close to the existing trail. JDSF has done brush clearing of the existing trail so we should have little trouble completing the trail from Rd. 409 (Caspar/Little Lake Rd.) to Rd. 600 (Caspar Creek) before Summer 2007. We will meet at the easy access to this trail at the pull out (Rd. 690) north of 35mph sign just east of Mile Marker 2.76 on Rd. 409. Bring a lunch, water, gloves, and your favorite trail tool. Rain will cancel this workday. Chris

Trash Clean Up Day October 22nd

We had a good turn out for the Trash Clean up Day on October 22nd. Most trash was small this year. A group collected shooters trash from the rock pit at the end of Rd 530. Another group pulled all fagging left on trails and picked up some four-wheeler truck parts and other trash on S/H Trail. Stan hauled a couch and other debris from the Caspar Orchard area. John Lowden brought his nail magnet and collected nails from party spots on Rd 500. Although we did not collect the volume of trash of past Clean up days getting the small stuff dose make a difference in trail enjoyment for all users and hopefully discourage abusers.

New Caspar Trail

We got a lot of work done on the new trail. It was hot but a large part of the trail is now ridable. More work needs to be done to connect with the existing trail. Thanks to those able to help a switchback corner was completed as well as a lot of side hill bench cut. Another day of trail work will be set up soon. Hopefully it will not be as hot!
