Monthly First Saturday Group Ride

Starting May 1st 2010 Mendocino Coast Cyclists will host a group mountain bike ride to be held the first Saturday of the month through September 4th 2010.
Everyone is welcome!
Ride leader Roo Harris will be meeting at the end of the pavement on Road 409 (about 3.5 miles east of Hwy 1) at 10 a.m.
Bring water, food, and proper clothing for a 2-4 hr ride.
The route will depend on the ability of the riders that show up. An easier short ride followed by a longer hard ride will also be a possibility.
We love riding and helping others enjoy the Mendocino Coast on a bike!
A note from Roo,
Any cyclists who are thinking of coming should make reservations with Roo Harris prior to the first Saturday of each month trail ride. Please call (707) 937-4238 to make reservations. Without reservations the ride will not be scheduled for those dates. We at Mendocino Coast Cyclists look forward to showing you our back yard.

Enjoy,
Chris

Wheeler Beach Ride

A group of eleven riders braved the drive to Usal beach for a ride to Wheeler Beach on the Lost Coast. The six miles of the dirt road to Usal is brutal! I am always amazed how many people use this area, the camps where almost completely filled. The weather was perfect and the views awesome.
As we where getting ready to ride Stan startled a large bull elk that was lounging in the picnic area! It settled down again and we all got a chance to check out this impressive animal.
This was my first time on this ride and for some reason I expected it to be fairly easy. Having ridden other areas on the Lost Coast I should have known better. By rides end Cindy's computer had 22 miles and nearly 4K of climbing!

Mike and the elk at the rides start near Usal Beach.

David at one of many view spots.

Jim stops to check out Usal Beach far below.

The group arrives at Wheeler Beach.

Stan checks out Wheeler Beach.

Relaxing after the ride.

Rick at Usal Beach.
We all had a great time riding together and visiting this beautiful area!
Get out and ride!

Jiro's 50th at Boggs

Yes it has been ten years since this photo was taken at Jiro's 40th Birthday at Boggs! A camp out is planned for March 6-8. If you haven't ridden Boggs it is well worth the drive even for just one day. Boggs is about a two hour drive from the Mendo Coast near the town of Cobb in Lake County. From Hwy 175 just north of Cobb turn at the sign to the CDF Fire Station, stay on the main road (Rd 500) past the heliport about a mile to Calso Camp. Camping is free but no water is available. There is a good store in town for any supplies needed. Bring your lights for a night ride. An elevation of around 3500 ft means it can get cold this time of year so bring appropriate gear. This should be a great weekend! Hope to see you there!

Fathers Day Ride

I dont know how your Fathers Day ride was , but mine was great! Five and a half hours.
We rode Manley Gulch and then the Old Valley trail on the east side of the creek in the Woodlands canyon.
Then we went up Big River to Picolates(?).
Then up and over to Laguna to Laguna crossing and up the east side of Big River to Lillys. John had the briliant idea to climb up Boiler to 720.
About did us in.
Gascap and Gastank to Paralell Action.
What a beautiful day.

Jiro's Birthday Ride

March 4th Mendocino Coast Cyclists toured the meandering trails along Rd 409 on to Rd 720 and onto the Woodlands trails for Jiro's BD ride. We all had a great time! Charlie went off trail and had his shoes knocked of his feet but was unhurt by the experience. Every time I am out in this area Jiro has added some new trails to his playground! We may need some trail markers to find our way through (maybe color coded caution tape). The Club could use some more fun outings like this! Thanks Jiro and keep up the good work!

Ready for the Tour of Unknown?

I hope to be able to sit on the bike for 8 hrs and get up all the climbs this year. The road should be really rough after all the rain. I will again be on my moutain bike hybrid. The triple chain rings and front suspention work well for me on this ride. Some of the local riders hate to be behinde a MTB and skip the lunch break to stay in front. It is a pleasure to pass a few of them on the Endless Hills at the end of the ride. I am looking forward to my complementary massage at lunch and after the ride befor the included dinner. Yes this ride is well supported!
